Do you have enough for the Non-Lucrative Visa?

Spain asks you to show a year of means without working: savings you can reach, passive income, or both.  Write in what you have and who moves with you.  The result is in euros, the way the consulate reads it, with the renewal you will face a year later.

Your means

Money you could move in days.  A retirement account you cannot draw from without penalty counts for less, and a large deposit in the last few months draws questions.

$/ month

After tax.  Some consulates, Houston among them, read it net.  A salary or freelance income does not count.

What the consulate asks for as proof

    • A bank letter on letterhead with your average balance over the last twelve months and the balance today, with a sworn translation.  Printed statements alone are not enough.
    • The latest statements of every account you rely on, so the letter and the movements tell the same story.
    • Award letters for Social Security or a pension, and statements for dividends or rent, each with a sworn translation where the consulate asks for one.
    • No work. A signed statement that you will not work, in Spain or remotely.  Salary deposits in the statements undo it.

Not legal advice. An estimate for planning.  The consulate decides, each one reads the paperwork its own way, and the line moves whenever Spain revises the IPREM.
